The emperor Justinian sent also the patrician Areobindus to share command with Sergius. Both these men were incompetent. In the meantime the leader of the Moorish rebels Antalas joined forces with Stotzas, a renegade Byzantine soldier who had led an unsuccessful rebellion against the Byzantine Carthage a few years earlier. |

After the defeat at Thacia, Sergius was relieved and Areobindus replaced him. Areobindus was murdered in March of 546 by the dux of Numidia Guntharic who took his position. Guntharic was also murdered two months later. |
