| After his unsuccessful campaign against the despot of Thessaly, around 1274 the Byzantine Emperor Michael VIII Palaiologos sent a new army in 1277 under megas stratopedarches John Synadenos and megas kontostavlos Michael Kaballarios. |

Aftermath: |
| Emperor Michael VIII tried prepared a new invasion in 1282 but he died before the launch of this campaign. John Doukas remained ruler of Thessaly until his death in 1289. Thessaly lasted until 1318. |
